TRANSFORMATION - HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?

Rom 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. NIV
Hundreds of people have experienced transformation and have left behind any identity other than their identity as believers in Jesus Christ. For some this has included dramatic reduction in same-sex feelings.  For some, there has been little change in their feelings but great change in their identity.

Finding something better, gives us the power to discard what we once thought was our greatest value, the things we held with greatest pride. For those who find the 'pearl of great price' (Matt 13:46), desire is for the one who loves with pure and sacrificial love, and all counterfeits to fulfillment are laid down at his feet.

It is not a matter of doing 'what is right', it is a matter of finding something better.  And relationship with Jesus that grows, is by far better than any attempt to be completed by any human. No one can take his place. He is our prize. Heb 12:2 "looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God."

Giving up our false beliefs and submitting to the way of the cross may well be the hardest path to choose. Entering through a narrow door (Lu 13:24) to walk a narrow way, will cause many to deride you and discourage you. Heading off on the broad way looks so much easier and more pleasurable but the Bible says that it ends in destruction. God is with you on the path to righteousness and peace. Walking it with Jesus means you are with the one who literally is 'the way, the truth and the life. (Jon 14:6)  It is a path to life. It is a pilgrim's journey that few find, and yet many are numbered in that 'few' and many have come from same-sex backgrounds. Our testimonies are found on the net. Whether our feelings change or not, we are still enabled by God to not live by our feelings, but rather by his truth and love. His grace is sufficient for us and his grace gives us the power to say 'no' to sin.  Rom 6:6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin"  By his Spirit, we are free indeed.

So what is this ‘gospel’ we hear about?

‘Good news’ is the literal meaning of this word ‘gospel.’ In this world flooded with bad news. With so many of us suffering guilt for not living as we know inwardly we should, and anxiety for the future, the gospel/good news is that there really is a way to leave that anxiety and guilt behind, to start over.

Through Jesus there is a purpose to our life, a God who made us, and someone perfect who wants to give his abundant life to us.
Jesus, the one who spoke this universe into being, is the one who came from Heaven to Earth 2,000 years ago, lived a perfect life, and died to personally pay the penalty that the Bible explains we deserve. Eternal life is his gift to us.

We all try with all our might to ‘be good enough,’ whether in our own eyes, or in the eyes of others, or to the standard that we think God expects. But deep down we all know how far short we fall of God’s perfect standard. That’s why the apostle John could write this - 1 John 4:9-10 God showed how much He loved us by sending His one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through Him. (10)  This is real love—not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

And so we have relief from condemnation and bondage to sin in this life, and a vibrant and real hope in eternity, all through simple belief in Jesus as the one who paid for our sins at the cross, and lives in and through us to enable us to please God.

So, what can I do to know the freedom God is offering me? You can pray a simple prayer and give your life to God. Ask Jesus to cleanse you of your sin and receive the life of Jesus by asking him to lead and guide you from this day on.

If you would like you could pray this prayer or similar; “Lord God, My own attempts to find peace and meaning have failed. I know I’ve done many wrongs, and so I ask your forgiveness, and also the ability to forgive others. I accept that Jesus died for my sins and I want to surrender my life to him today. Please cleanse me of my sin. I accept your Holy Spirit into my life to guide and empower me to walk in your ways. Thank you for loving me. I pray this in Jesus name.”
